WARM UP_HARRY POTTER

Ok, so I'm going to try and do warm up drawing each day. And I'll post up most of them. At the end of the year, if I keep it up, i'll have a ton for the next years sketchbook. I'm not going to give myself any rules. Some might be inked, some might be markered up, some might be rendered wtih pencil (if i can get better at it). I do want to keep each drawing to an hour, to an hour and a half.

Todays is Harry Potter. I love these books, and I'm listening to "The Order of the Phoenix" for the next few days. I've started it a few times, but have started from the begining again today. I want to get thru this one so I can listen to the "Half Blood Prince" I've heard that one is sick.

I'm ok with this one. It's not blowing me away. After finishing, I realize I didn't put much thought into it. Just Harry standing there for no reason, holding is wand up for no reason. There really is no point to this piece. That is something i will have to keep in mind each day. I want to pu characters in a situation, and make sure the props make sense. That's the lesson today...think a little more. Make the sketch have a point. SLOW THE FUCK DOWN...I should tell myself that more. We'll try to beat this one tommorrow.

Hey Skottie, just thought id leave a comment to say its awesome that u take the time to post these things up here, i love reading the thought process' behind your art, it makes sitting down at a table in the morning to draw all the less daunting. Dibs on the awesome stuff so far and love this Harry Potter piece (i see what u mean about the pointlessness of the composition tho (something which i really need to work on as well :D ))

i dig the harry potter. and in this piece, i don't need meaning. everything doesn't have to feel like a piece of poetry. this picture = life. and sometimes, it is what is is. period.

keep it bloggin',

The piece is hot.Harry Potter is one of my favorite characthers and one I think would look great as a comic book. Keep 'em coming Skottie. I'm anxiously waiting for B-Sides to come out. I loved the work you had in Efelant and I loved your Human Torch and Venom runs. Are there any plans to work on another ongoing series?

It's a pleasure to be able to say directly you that you have a cool style and that you are a referent also here in Spain. I am a storyboard artist and animation character designer but I am charmed with the comic.
A mounth ago I bought a Venon's comic drawn by you and I just can't say pretty things about it. Really amazing.
I repeat, it's a pleasure to be able to say to you Congratulations and Thanks for your drawings!!!!

very well done, skottie. i'm knocked out by the amount of life the images have that you've got posted up. and that comicbook page (from an earlier post) with the heavy blacks is great departure for you - it may have started out as 'new direction' for you, but between that, the battle chasers then this? i think the solid, blacked-out areas is working, man. inspired work.

hey skottie, blog looks good man, clean cut and everything in its spot...your gonna have to start a mailing list when that sketchbook is ready to go.
i say you should start doing more everyday people stuff, or just random sci-fi characters. that stuff keeps my mind open when it comes to the work side.

Generally - very nice but in this 'product' something is missing...
Harry and tree look ok, nothing more... where is the action?
'he look so sad', staying without a reason... just staying...
The other sketches are very good.

i agree with anonymous (whoever the fuck he is). its true, its a sketch, it doesnt need a lot of thought behind it. bottom line, i think we both just want it to look cool. composition is for Da Vinci, as long as its well drawn (and u r no slouch in that department) its OK by me.
