Ok, So I love to Run My Mouth...What?

So, I called my buddy Mike Norton to see what he was doing the other day and he said "going to record the CrankCast if you wanna come." You know me, if I get the chance to leave the house, I'm taking it. Plus, I don't get to see Crank that often so it's nice to hang out a little. So, go listen to episode 90 of the CrankCast.

Here's a brief description of the show:

It's the cloves that make the man!

This week on a hefty 90th episode of the Crankcast that's sober enough to read the intro … Skottie Young joins us in the compound to discuss the finer points of Billy Zane's career, we talk about movies, TV and comics and finally we try to read email without passing out.

Cover and A little News

Here is a new Cover for Cable Deadpool. I think this issue has already came out, or is coming out this week.

Onto the news. I will not be attending any more conventions for awhile. At least for this coming year. My work schedule has been insane, with 3 cover gigs and a monthly book of pencils and inks...I'm on my last leg..haha. And I have a few personal projects that I need to finally get started on and the conventions seem to distract me from doing so.

I've been asked a million times over the years "When are you going to do a creator owned project?" and I always answer "When I come up with an idea." Well, I've finally thought of a few ideas and I'm diving head first into them. Now, these will take me awhile, as I will still be working for Marvel. But I'm fine with knowing that they are in the works. One I'm writing, and I have another outstanding artist drawing that. And one I will write and illustrate. I'm not going to give any details on anything just yet. It's just too early.

So, with this in mind, I've decided that I won't attend another convention until one of these projects are done and ready for the world. Self imposed prison term! If you don't see me at the Cons this year, just know that in the end it will be worth it...hopefully. If I do all this work and you don't like it then fuck you! haha.

Some of you may know that I've been spending my friday nights hanging out with Chris, Tom, Sal, and who ever elses comes recording thier Around Comics Podcast. If you didn't know, well you do now and there is no exuse for you not to run over to Itunes and subscribe! haha.

We interview David Peterson, creator of Mouse Guard. It was a great conversation, and I will one day beat him in Risk. (probably not, I think he's like a level 2 million master or something.)

Covers and Such

UPDATE: I know, you're probably already sick of me, but here is another cover in the solicits this month. I'm doing covers on Marvel Adventure Iron Man as well. Hey, I figured I try and make each of you want to end it all after I take over ever books covers. I'm out to rule the world!!!

I just got back from Heroes Con. I had a pretty good time catching up with some people and meeting alot of new faces at the show.

First, thanks to all the Around Comics Podcast listeners who came by to show support. It was great meeting you guys, and i'm glad you've tolerated my invading the show.

These are a few new covers that just got solicited this week so I can show them now. One is for New X-men 42 and the other for Cable/Deadpool..um...whatever, I've lost track. Both of these happened to fall under a vintage comic feel. Because of Bucky being in CAB/DP, I wanted to make it feel like an old school comic that's been worn out and read a million times. I apllied the old dot printing style to help achieve the vintage feel. I also did a mock up version with the logo to show that DP would pop out a little more once the logo was in.

X-men came after, and due to story line I thought this would be a chance for me to pay tribute to one of the greatest artists of all time, Norman Rockwell. I've always wanted to this but just couldn't fine the story that would fit it. So, I was happy to get this chance. Again, I wanted to make it feel like an old magazine, wrinkled from time and faded a little from light. It was a great learning experience and something that I didn't know if I could pull off. It's just another part of this crazy experimental stage I've been going thru.

Lastly, is a con sketch I did with water colors. It's pretty crazy for me and was a challenge to do. Hopefully I learn from this and keep pushing forward.

Ok, I've babbled long enough.

Led Poets Society June: Fantasy

It's been awhile since I've put up one of my drawing night sketches. Tonight was fantasy night and I thought that I would try my hand a little watercolor tone sketch. I've never really used watercolors, and I guess I still haven't since this was a water color brush pen. I basically just inked it with the brush pen, then went over the whole thing with a brush and water. It was fun, and made me wish that I wasn't at a bar with shitty lighting so I could really do some experimenting. But, I pretty pleased over all and plan to try and play around with some more watercolors on some covers and what not.

enjoy!
