A Master has Passed

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but Carlos Meglia was a master of his craft.  Before I was even close to working as a comic book professional, Meglia's art was there to inspire me.  He pushed the limits of design, imagination, and life in everything he's ever done.  American comic fans and publishers didn't "get" him so we didn't see alot of his work here in the states but he's been a legend in international comics since the 70'sl, though looking at his youthful art you would never know it.
On a completely selfish level, I'm sad th
at I won't get to see any work from an artist that I've admired for so long.  It is a weird world sometimes.  About an hour before I got the email telling me of his passing, I went on a internet search for any new books of his that I've missed.  It was random an came about because I read a review of the new Star Wars film and that made me pull Carlos's Star Wars book out.   Strange.

I've never even heard of the guy...but sad to see a talented man go. You should highlight more artists that you like, to turn the rest of us onto things we may not have seen before.

you are correct in that the world is a little bit less special without carlos meglia.

would you post some more artists that you dig? i'm always looking for more artists' work to lament over.

wow....Im honestly still in shock from reading this,I don't know what to say really, like you Skottie he was one of those artist that inpsired to start drawing comics again back in highschool, his style blew my mind,it was the kind of style that you couldn't help but just stare at, with only one word coming to mind " damn ", we've truly lost one of the greats, he'll be missed alot.

I've have heard of him and was/is stunned at the news. I love his work. You can see his influence clearly among a select few artists in comics and elsewhere it's a shame that more people didn't get what he was doing. I'm glad I "got it", and now I'm sad that he's gone.

as an argentinian myself, i met him a couple of times, had the chance to spend some time talking with him, drinking a coffee and stuff. I can asure that he was as good a person as he was an artist.

he was a master of masters.
genius.

we'll miss him a lot.

so fucking sad.

saludos desde argentina.

yeah, it amazes me how many people never knew of his work or appreciated how much of a trailblazer he was. The art field has lost a visionary.

Man...I was looking to see if he had a 3rd Canari book on the way, and I find this horrible news. He is one artist I would have absolutely loved to meet. His artwork was like crack to me. So pushed, so fun....light hearted...especially in a world where everything is so dark now and the only word we ever hear is realism. It just made me think that he must be one really cool guy. This is seriously sad news...he will be sorely missed...its up to us to make sure he lives on through his art.
