I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but Carlos Meglia was a master of his craft. Before I was even close to working as a comic book professional, Meglia's art was there to inspire me. He pushed the limits of design, imagination, and life in everything he's ever done. American comic fans and publishers didn't "get" him so we didn't see alot of his work here in the states but he's been a legend in international comics since the 70'sl, though looking at his youthful art you would never know it.
On a completely selfish level, I'm sad th
at I won't get to see any work from an artist that I've admired for so long. It is a weird world sometimes. About an hour before I got the email telling me of his passing, I went on a internet search for any new books of his that I've missed. It was random an came about because I read a review of the new Star Wars film and that made me pull Carlos's Star Wars book out. Strange.
